The licking continues

I mentioned the other day that Miriam decided to lick the counter, window and door in the dollar store the other day, but yesterday she was hard pressed to keep her tongue in her mouth!  I caught her licking the following....

*The tire swing at the park
*The slide at the park
*Our bench swing in the backyard
*A soccer ball
*Her sister's crib
*Her sister
*The wall
*A book
*A rock
*The T.V.

And this doesn't include the things I expect her to lick like toy food, her plate and her spoon....

As I said before, I hope she doesn't wake up completely ill one day!  It's pretty gross!  Any suggestions on how to get her to stop???

Wordless Wednesday: My talented son

Whenever I am at a store, the library or just out and about with my 3 wonderful children, I hear this
"Wow! You have 3 beautiful daughters!" or "3 girls??!!"  sometimes I just smile and nod, other times I say that my oldest is just trying to fool everyone with his long hair.

This WW is devoted to him.... and last night his beloved fishy "Peko" was found at the bottom of it's bowl... so it's kinda for him too.

Handsome, not beautiful.

Artistic
patient... he cooked this bread over a fire!
Loving brother
Creative

This video is still in the 'editing' stage, it will be don sand uploaded to youtube soon, but I thought I would give everyone who reads a little sneak peak.

Sorry, my Wordless Wednesday wasn't quite "Wordless"!!

To be a kid again...

Seth is always telling me about what he is going to do when he grows up.  Forever listing the things he will do differently or the same as I do.

Eric and I always find ourselves saying the same thing "Just enjoy being a kid!"

No responsibilities, way less stress, no money worries, no houses to clean, no people to cook for.  If I could go back to being a kid, even for an hour, I would definitely do it! (not forever though, because I love my kids too much to be away from them)

Miriam is starting to grow up too.  She has recently hit the stage where a single word will make her burst into hysterical laughter.  Words like "Bum" and "Poo" and "Boogers".   Today she ran into Seth's room, looked up at him and yelled "POOOO!!!" and laughed so hard that she fell down and rolled on the floor, no jokes.

The words no longer make me laugh, or even smirk.  I am a true adult when the word 'booger' doesn't affect me. BUT seeing Miriam rolling on the floor in a fit of laughter certainly got me going!

Kids are care-free....  How amazing!!  Yet the other lesson I have been reminded of twice this week is that sometimes care-free is not so great.

Lucy came crawling over to me with fingers that were covered in poop.  She was still smiling, the smell was making me nauseous, and I have no idea where this tiny piece of poop came from, but in this instance, being care-free (and in Lucy's case, not knowing any better) is not a benefit.

We were checking out at the dollar store this evening and I look over at Miriam and see her licking (YES, LICKING WITH HER TONGUE) the window, then she runs over and licks the side of the counter, and runs as fast as she can to lick the door.  She did all of this before I could utter any words to make her stop.  I think my mind was still registering exactly what was happening, but she definitely licked 3 things in the dollar store, and quite possibly more.  An other instance where being care-free may not be so good.

I am just crossing my fingers that she doesn't wake up ill tomorrow morning....

Kids in the house

This is something new I thought of.

I will be adding a photo every once and a while, for people without kids to understand people with kids, and for people with kids to know they are not alone.

These photos will be called "Kids in the house"

This will showcase how you can tell that kids live in the house, besides the loud screaming, toys, piles of laundry and general chaos....

There is something on this mantle that just doesn't belong...

Yes, parents display ALL of their children's artwork, even if it does look like it came out of a Tim Burton film.

We only had a little snow, so we could only make little snowmen.  If you open a freezer at someones house and you see this, you know, there are kids in the house!
I am not sure how I would even explain this to my friends WITH kids.  Where did the dirt come from? I just don't know.  Why was it on the toilet seat when I was about to sit for my morning pee... I'm just not sure.  I can tell you one thing, seeing this lets you know one of 2 things, there is something in the house, and it may be kids, but it may also be pets.

Left-over ham??

I have some favourite, tried, tested and true recipes....  This one, is everyone's favourite!
This recipe was given to me at my wedding shower, which had an AMAZING theme.... FOOD.  Everyone brought me one of their favourite recipes and any non-perishable ingredients that went along with it.  This one came from my cousin.... I tried it soon after and have been eating it regularly since then.  It is sooo yummy!

When we have ham for dinner, everyone is excited because that means that one day soon, we will be having....

Ham and Cheddar Chowder

2 cups water
2 cups cubed potato
1/2 cup sliced carrot
1/2 cup sliced celery
1/4 cup onion
salt & pepper to taste

In a large sauce pan, bring all ingredient to a boil and let simmer for approx. 10 minutes and remove from heat.

1/4 cup butter
1/4 flour

2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheese

in a med sauce pan melt butter.  Blend in flour, add milk, cook until thick and bubbly and add cheese.  Pour into the large saucepan with the cooked veggies.

1 can of peaches and cream corn
1 cup of cubed ham (approximately, if you have a little more or a little less left-over, use what you got!)

add to the rest and devour!!

What happens at a 10 year-old's party...

Like I said last week, we VERY last minute, threw together a party for Seth's 10th birthday.  I called his best friend's mom, and he invited 2 other boys from his class for a sleep-over.  One was not able to come, and one is 'not ready' for sleep-overs so he just came for the evening.  We were left with the possibility of one boy actually sleeping over but that depended on the results of his last hockey tournament of the year.

I love boys!  I think they are wacky, crazy, energetic little spirits.  They all strive to be the life of the party and will do almost anything to achieve that.

Let me tell you my story about the craziest evening I have had since college!

The evening started with the arrival of his friends.  They are  all excited to see each other especially since Seth's best friend was transferred to a different school this year.  After arriving they immediately start wrestling, fighting with pillows, and lightsabers.

We planned a scavenger hunt... it took at least 20 minutes for them to stop fighting to start the hunt.  During the scavenger hunt I felt hope.  They were occupied and working together. Calm, peaceful.... oh wait... somehow Miriam's doll has been torn apart, dismembered and thrown into the sandbox.... hope - gone.

Now there are boys hurdling themselves off the little see-saw and down the hill. I came inside and left them unattended in the backyard to preform reconstructive surgery to Miriam's doll.

Seth has recently been making stop-motion and claymation videos and was excited to show his friends... so he did.  They loved them.  In fact they were so excited by his weather reports that they decided they wanted to make one of their own.  How they proceeded was no fault of mine.  I had no control!  There was Seth, sitting in front of the computer, filming himself, now there is boys jumping.... hitting, strangling.... oh wait - dance intermission.... that was interesting... as one sang "I'm sexy and I know it".

We ordered pizza, here is the strangest part -  they didn't want any!  We ordered 3 pizza's for just my family!  (which is kinda awesome because we have left-overs for tonight)

The boys disappeared back outside, and I receive a text message... from my husband which reads "Mike (not the kid's real name) has taken off his pants and shirt and is running towards the road in his underwear"

Geez.  *No control*  After 15 minutes we manage to get them inside.... one still in only underwear.  I am glad he is not dancing now!  I convince him to get dressed before the other boys' dad comes to get him, but he manages to 'loose' his shirt, but at least he was wearing pants!!!

Eric comes up to me and says "That was a real eye opener"

No kidding!  I don't want those guys having any parties at my house when they are teenagers.  That would guarantee streaking...
